Weld-field immune sensors with a suitable coating. Standard inductive sensors false-trigger in the field around a weld gun and their faces take spatter damage, which is why they end up replaced every quarter.
Capacitive rather than inductive. A capacitive sensor will also detect material through a thin container wall, which makes it useful for level detection without penetrating the vessel.
The environmental rating more often than the sensing range. Washdown rating and chemical resistance are what separate a sensor that survives a year from one replaced every quarter.
