SKODOCK Expansion Joints

An expansion joint absorbs the thermal growth of a pipe run so that the load never reaches the flange, the pump nozzle or the vessel connection. On a hot line, the forces involved are large enough to distort equipment if there is nowhere for the movement to go.

Correct specification starts with the movement itself: axial, lateral or angular, and how much of each. That decides whether the joint needs tie rods, hinges or gimbals, and getting it wrong is why joints fail in service rather than at commissioning.

Send the line size, the movement to be absorbed, medium, and operating temperature and pressure.
