Polymer plain bearings run without lubrication because the lubricant is compounded into the bearing material itself. That makes them a fit where grease would contaminate the product, attract dust, or simply never be reapplied.

They behave differently from rolling bearings and should be specified accordingly. Load capacity depends on surface pressure and sliding speed together, expressed as a pv value, and polymer bearings need a running clearance because they absorb moisture and expand slightly in service.
