Balluff

Balluff is a German sensor manufacturer covering inductive and photoelectric sensing, magnetostrictive linear position measurement, industrial RFID, and the network and connectivity products that link them.

Its inductive range includes factor 1 sensors, which hold the same sensing distance on steel, stainless and aluminum. That matters more than it sounds: a standard inductive sensor loses a substantial share of its rated range on non-ferrous targets, and a product changeover that switches material is a common cause of intermittent faults that look electrical and are not.

Magnetostrictive linear transducers are the other product we are asked for most. They give absolute position along a stroke without contact and without the wear of a potentiometer, which is why they end up inside hydraulic cylinders and on press and injection-molding axes.

Absolute output means position is known immediately at power-up with no homing move, which on a press is a genuine safety and cycle-time advantage. Stroke length, output signal and rod or profile style are all encoded in the order code, so a replacement must match the original exactly rather than approximately.

Industrial RFID is the third leg, used for tool identification, fixture tracking and traceability on lines that need to know which part is where.
