HYDAC

HYDAC is a German manufacturer of hydraulic and fluid-engineering components, and for our customers it means three things above all: filter elements, accumulators, and the valves and manifolds around them.

Filter elements are the recurring item and the cheapest insurance in a hydraulic system. Contamination is behind the large majority of hydraulic failures, and the particles that do the damage are far smaller than the eye can resolve. Running an element past its service life means the bypass opens and unfiltered oil goes straight to the pumps and valves, which is precisely when filtration mattered most.

Elements are specified by filtration rating in microns, beta ratio, collapse pressure and media type, not by physical size alone. A dimensionally identical element with the wrong beta ratio will fit perfectly and fail to protect the system, which is a difficult failure to diagnose because nothing looks wrong.

Accumulators store energy and absorb shock through a gas charge separated from the oil by a bladder, diaphragm or piston. Pre-charge is not a fit-and-forget setting: a slowly falling charge changes the accumulator's behavior long before it stops working, and by the time pressure spikes are propagating into the rest of the circuit the damage has started.

On the valve side, HYDAC covers cartridge and inline directional, pressure and flow control, plus the combination blocks that carry several functions in one manifold. On a press or machine circuit these define how the system behaves under load, and replacements are specified from the valve's own code, which encodes function, port size, spool, pressure range and control voltage.

HYDAC also makes condition monitoring sensors, which is the logical extension of the filtration business: measuring particle count rather than changing elements on a calendar.
