For a maintenance store the useful fact is that the ISO designation system is shared across manufacturers, so a bearing can be cross-referenced.
What does not cross-reference automatically is the suffix. Internal clearance, cage material, seal type and precision class are all carried in the letters after the number, and they are frequently what the application actually depended on. C3 clearance in a hot application is not optional.
